How to Solve Algebra Problem Help - Algebra Help to Make it EasierWhen you're stuck on a math problem, try to solve algebra problem help. This is the easiest way to master algebra. You'll learn what the different steps are and exactly how to approach the problem from a different angle.First, decide which step you're struggling with. Are you having trouble solving problems that require a single formula or specific combinations of formulas? For example, if you're dealing with a loss equation, are you having trouble figuring out how to replace or total the interest with a single term? Perhaps you have trouble performing any of the algebraic techniques. Now, determine the step you need to start. It could be a single step, it could be a formula or combination of formulas, or it could be a combination of multiple steps.Once you know what the step is, figure out how you will replace the step with another step that matches the problem at hand. If the problem requires for example using the fir st and second roots of a given quadratic, find a method that uses the first and second roots, and find a formula that allows you to multiply the results of the two roots together.Once you have figured out the step, you can solve algebra problem help by studying the step and the algebraic formulas associated with it. Study the formulas as closely as possible, and copy them down. This way, when you come across the step again, you can check your work. Finally, look over the steps and formulas you copied down and see if you can think of ways to make a substitution without using a formula. Substituting with algebraic formulas is an easier technique than working with the step. An Introduction to Oil Painting
An Introduction to Oil Painting All a Beginner Needs to Know about Oil Painting ChaptersOil Painting for BeginnersBeginner Techniques in Oil Painting â" and Some More Advanced OnesHandy Tutorials and Resources to Improve Your Oil PaintingWeâre guessing youâre here because you want to stand alongside some of historyâs geniuses of oil painting. You want to be rubbing shoulders with Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Vermeer, and Da Vinci, in the pantheon of the greatest oil painters of all time.Or maybe not; maybe your oil painting ambitions are a little more modest. Maybe you just fancy splattering that canvas with something beautiful, being able to wield a paint brush, or creating an oil painting of which you can be proud.Whilst the first may be a little challenging â" although not to say impossible â" the latter is within everyoneâs grasp. And weâre here to help you get there.Thatâs why weâve prepared this beginnerâs guide to how to paint with oil. And although it is one of the more difficult painting mediums to master, its effects â" its bold, vivid colo urs, its beautifully textured quality, and its glossy vibrant finish â" make it one of the most rewarding media in which to work. So, letâs have a look at some of the things that you will need to have to start painting â" and some of the things that you will need to know. Thereâs a fair few of them. However, with practice, youâll be as good a painter as you want to be.Letâs take a look. Thatâs what weâre going to be answering here. However, the answer depends on what exactly you want to be doing. Obviously, everyone has a few things in common. Yet, the amount of detail and the types of techniques youâll want to learn depend on the sort of painter you want to be and the level of seriousness youâll want to put into learning to paint. Here, weâre going to be looking at the very basics, for those who are totally new to painting on canvas. Because that is always the best place to start. Oil painting is fun! What is Oil Painting? To begin with, then, what is oil painting?Oil paint is a particular type of painting medium that is known for its viscosity, its slow drying time, and its use by some of the most important painters in history.Itâs made â" as you can probably expect â" from oil. From vegetable oils, primarily â" including linseed oil, walnut oil, or the oil from poppy seeds. Oil is a great medium in which to suspend colour pigments because it has a very high saturation, meaning that oil paints can hold a lot of the colour, so they become incredibly bold on the canvas. In comparison, watercolour â" in which pigments are suspended in water â" does not produce such vividness of colour. The other characteristic thing about oil paint is that it is very slow drying, to the extent that some colours donât dry fully even after months. This means that artists can retouch and correct their works after much time has passed. In comparison to acrylic paint, say, which is incredibly fast drying, this feature of oil painting makes it ideal for beginners who shouldnât need to rush. Some Key Tools Youâll NeedTo excel in oil painting â" or, indeed, to get anywhere at all with it â" you are going to need a certain number of practical tools with which to work. You can imagine what most of these will be.Paint brushes are a pretty good place to start. But note the plural: youâll probably need more than one of different sizes before you can get going. Flat brushes are good for larger scale paint application, whilst round brushes are good for detail.Meanwhile, canvases â" primed and sized â" are going to be necessary too, as well as a colour palette in which you can mix your colours. The mixability of oil paints is one of the perks of the medium â" so donât neglect it.Otherwise, something to clean your brush â" and water wonât do. You need a white spirit of some kind. Weâve moved past the days of turpentine, however, so try an artistâs whi te spirit. Any art shop will sell it.Find out more about starting out in oil painting!Beginner Techniques in Oil Painting â" and Some More Advanced OnesOnce you have rushed out and bought all those things that youâll need, itâs good to think about what techniques, skills, and knowledge you are going to need to make some progress in your painting.Hereâs where it all gets pretty serious, because if you donât nail some of the fundamental aspects of this, your painting might not last as a painting for too long. The canvas can rot, your paint can flake or fade, and the whole thing can crack if you do the wrong thing. But enough of the scary stuff. Really, it is very difficult for it all to go that wrong. Just do as we suggest and it will all go swimmingly. Start on your journey of oil paintingPreparatory Techniques in Oil PaintingSo, what do you need to know before you start painting? There are three things really:How to prime a canvas or surface; How to thin your paint; andThe laws of paint application. You can see the details of all this in our article on oil painting techniques for beginners, but letâs run through some of the basics here.In regards to the first point, if you paint in oil on a surface that has not been primed â" such as an unprimed canvas â" you are going to be exposing the threads of cotton or linen in the canvas to the oil. This will make the fibres in the canvas rot â" and your paint will begin to flake off.Secondly, you know that you are going to clean your brush with white spirit â" because water and oil donât mix. However, these spirits are also essential for thinning your paint too.Why would you want to do that? Sometimes you donât want your oil paint to be as thick as when it comes out of the tube (su ch as when you are doing underpainting). As such, you can add spirits â" and oil too â" to your paints to make them less thick. Finally, there are two primary laws of oil painting: fat over lean and thick over thin. In both cases, you want the fast drying paint to be applied first. Thick paint â" and âfatâ paint, that paint that is oilier â" needs to be applied later. As the thicker and fatter paints dry slower, thin paint on top will just crack.Use Different Oil Painting Techniques to Achieve Different EffectsMore advanced techniques come in truckloads â" and the different techniques youâll want to learn will depend on the styles in which you want to paint. If you are interested in traditional landscape painting, you might want to try your hand at blending â" the technique in which you mix together the boundaries of adjacent colours on your canvas. The effect smoothens the whole scene. If you are more a Van Gogh fan, youâll want to consider wet on wet painting (or alla p rima, as it is known), or impasto.Handy Tutorials and Resources to Improve Your Oil PaintingFinally, if you are looking for guidance or inspiration in your oil painting, there are plenty of places in which to look. From the newer forms of entertainment and instruction â" such as podcasts and video tutorials â" to blogs, books, and the original paintings of famous artists themselves. All of this can provide inspiration and motivation in your own work.Oil Painting Podcasts and VideosPodcasts and online videos are some of the most popular places for people to get their information these days. And this doesnât exclude the world of art either. In terms of oil painting tutorials via video, the best place to look is of course YouTube, where painters such as Florent Farges and Lena Danya give live demonstrations of their work.If you want to just learn about the history of oil painting, or about ideas around the creative process, check out the podcasts of Tate Museums. They cover just abou t everything, with a quality that you would expect.Learn more about resources and tutorials to help with your oil painting!Find Inspiration from the History of ArtHowever, there is no better place to look for inspiration and guidance than in the history of art itself. From Da Vinci and Rembrandt to Van Gogh and Wassily Kandinsky, history is full of oil paint artists â" who are probably the reason that you wanted to paint in the first place! Those paint brushes won't stay clean for long...
Should you take the SAT or ACT in 2014
Should you take the SAT or ACT in 2014 One of the most common questions we get here at AJ Tutoring is whether a student should take the ACT in addition to (or instead of) the SAT. Read on for more information to help you make the decision! How do the SAT and ACT differ?ACT questions are generally more straightforwardThe ACT has a science section, which the SAT does not haveThe SAT tests more vocabularyMath on the SAT only includes algebra and geometry, while math on the ACT includes more advanced trigonometryThe SAT is split up into more sectionsThe ACT is a faster-paced testSo, which test should my student take? Its difficult to predict which test is a better fit until students actually take the tests and compare their scores. Subjectively, most students prefer the ACT because it feels like an easier test. However, after the scores are scaled, most students get similar scores on both tests. Some students, though, perform much better on one test and since colleges accept both tests for admission, we always recommend trying both the SAT and ACT!How can my student take a practice ACT test? AJ Tutoring offers free proctored practice tests for current students most Saturday mornings at our Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and San Jose offices. Students are welcome to take a practice ACT, which we will score and compare to prior PSAT and SAT scores. If its clear that the students score is much higher on one test than the other, its an easy decision thats the test we should focus on in the spring. However, if the scores are similar, we recommend preparing for both tests. How do we prepare for the ACT? Because so much of the content on the tests is similar, AJ Tutoring offers a shorter ACT hybrid program for students who have already completed a full SAT preparation with us. The ACT hybrid program, which is typically four sessions, focuses on strategies and timing unique to the ACT. If your student is only planning on taking the ACT, we also offer a comprehensive 8-9 session preparation for the ACT a lone.To find ACT test dates for 2014 and to register for the ACT, please go to the ACTs website. If you would like to register your student for a practice ACT or would like to speak to a director about ACT tutoring in more detail, please give us a call at (650) 331-3251 or email us at info@ajtutoring.com. Were looking forward to speaking with you!

How to Eat Your Way to Total Language Immersion
How to Eat Your Way to Total Language Immersion 5 Delicious Ways to Kickstart Language Learning with Food Yes, you read the title correctly.Does it sound too delicious to be true?If youve decided to learn another language, you can actually start the process with something that you (love to) come into contact with regularly every day.Learning new languages can be quite challenging and, for those who dont enjoy learning through traditional means (like bookwork), it can be even more intimidating. So being told that you can begin to learn foreign words and phrases almost instantly by eating food sounds too good to be true right?Wrong. With an open mind and a little bit of effort, you can work towards accomplishing this goal in no time. You may already have recipes from around the world in your weekly meal rotations, but many of those are probably just adaptations of the real, traditional foods eaten in those particular places. Try expanding your knowledge of foreign languages as well as your palate even further with these 5 simple ideas. 5 Delicious Ways to Kickstart Language Learning with Food1. Eat at Authentic Ethnic RestaurantsThe key word here is authentic. Sorry, places like Taco Bell and Panda Express dont count. These arent going to be the typical food joints where you can order Pu Pu platters and Crunchwrap Supremes. Most food is prepared with recipes native to foreign lands, so expect to taste great homestyle cooking thatâs almost as good as if you went to the native country itself.Usually these restaurants are owned by immigrants or children of immigrants, so theyll know first-hand about to how properly speak their languages. If you want to pick up some foreign phrases, ask the people who work there how to say some of the names of food items that youâre interested in trying.Take into account that theyre at work and you dont want to hold them up, so avoid asking too many questions to be courteous. While youre there, ask for a print-out of the menu or take a picture of it. This way, youll always have a copy to use as a study guide and can practice memorizi ng these words from anywhere.Going to an authentic restaurant can be a one of a kind experience and there are probably quite a few locations near where you live ranging from Mexican to Vietnamese to Ethiopian and so on.Once you find one that you might like, give it a try. You might actually find that you prefer the taste of authentic Mexican fajitas barbacoa to that Doritos Locos Taco anyway.2. Try New RecipesAttempt to make new ethnic recipes that youve never heard of before. Youre most likely already familiar with foreign dishes such as lasagna, quesadillas, sushi and chow mein, but try to think outside the box and explore new delicious creations. Not only will doing so help you become exposed to new words and different cultures, but youll also probably find some tasty favorites to add to your rolodex of recipes. Many ethnic recipes are also diet-friendly, so you cant go wrong with serving these to a variety of people who have different needs and tastes. Here are a few cool new reci pes to get you started:Spanish: Chorizo con Papas (Mexican Sausages with Potatoes) â" A traditional Mexican dinner entree thats simple and quick yet also bursting with flavor.French: Soupe au Pistou (Provencal Vegetable Soup) â" Many people are familiar with some French soups like French Onion Soup and Bisque. However, most have never heard of this deliciously hearty vegetable soup.German: Rote Grutze (Red Grits) â" Even though the meaning of Rote Grutze translates to âred grits,â grits are actually not used in most modern recipes anymore due to how they made the dish grainy and heavy. Now Rote Grutze is more like a berry compote pudding that goes great with yogurt, cottage cheese or homemade vanilla sauce.Chinese: Mayi Shang Shu (Ants Climbing a Tree) â" This is a spicy Szechuan pork and noodle dish that gets its name from its appearance (the pieces of pork cling to the noodles like how ants would cling to a tree branch).Japanese: Dorayaki â" (Japanese Pancakes with R ed Bean Paste Filling) This is a sweet Japanese treat that can be eaten for breakfast or for dessert. Usually the filling is red bean paste, but there are many other variations such as white bean paste, jelly, chocolate spread and more. After you find a few new recipes that you like, get into the habit of pronouncing them like the natives do. There are several online tools that help you with foreign word pronunciation like Forvo. Then try converting the entire recipe into your native language and work on reading the foreign language recipe repeatedly for extra practice.Want to follow along with a cooking show? Head on over to FluentU. FluentU takes real-world videosâ"including cooking shows, food documentaries, movie trailers and music videosâ"and turns them into language lessons you can use in everyday life. For example, you can learn how to make cookies con chips de chocolate (chocolate chip cookies) and huevos rellenos (deviled eggs) in Spanish or how to make authentic made leines in French. Go ahead and take a look. Itâs only one click away!Having someone read the recipe aloud and explain things step-by-step can be a great way to improve your listening comprehension. Plus, FluentU provides downloadable transcripts, active learning tools and interactive captions in English and your target language. The active learning tools are probably the best part. Multimedia flashcards and vocabulary lists will be made from the new vocabulary and grammar you encounter while watching your chosen videos, so you can use these tools to practice and reinforce what youve been learning just by listening, watching and cooking!Start using FluentU on the website with your computer or tablet or, better yet, download the FluentU app from the iTunes or Google Play store. You can find plenty of other text-based recipes from around the world easily with a quick online search. A good website to find other dishes from around the world is www.foodbycountry.com.3. Eat F oods That Help You Retain InformationWhen looking for new recipes to try, see if you can incorporate certain brain-boosting foods into your dishes to help you focus and memorize material better. Foods like fish, onions, berries, apples, spinach and nuts can all help with brain function which can, in turn, boost your language retention. Most of these foods are eaten by people everywhere, so finding recipes with a couple of these ingredients already included shouldnt be too hard at all.Even if some of your favorite recipes donât include some of the items, experiment a little and you may be surprised with the end results. You can read more about the relationship between foods and brain retention here.4. Create Food Note Cards (Especially When Traveling)Creating note cards really comes in handy when traveling to foreign countries and finding new places to visitâ"especially when nobody knows your native language and youre still working on boosting your foreign language communication ski lls. Before going to a foreign restaurant for the first time, try making note cards with simple phrases that youll show the restaurant workers in order to give them an idea on how to best serve you.For those that have food sensitivities or dietary restrictions, this would definitely be useful as you can effectively communicate your needs through writing. For example, say youre visiting a restaurant in France and youre a vegetarian. You could write down a French phrase such as this:Bonjour, je suis un végétarien qui signifie que je ne peux pas manger des produits contenant de la viande. Cela inclut poulet, bÅ"uf, porc, veau et le poisson. Merci. This sentence translates to:âHello, I am a vegetarian which means that I canât eat any products containing meat. This includes chicken, beef, pork, veal and fish. Thank you.âShow this to whoever is serving you so they can better accommodate you during your time there.Word to the wise: If you have severe allergies to foods, make sure yo u write down the names of these foods in the foreign language. Keep a look out for these words on menus. Donât forget to let the server know that you absolutely cannot consume it.Even if you donât have any dietary restrictions, common phrases such as âwhere is the restroom?â or âcheck, pleaseâ are still very useful to write down on a note card to keep with you while out and about. After youve used the note cards long enough, try to practice using those phrases without the note cards. Pay attention to how people interact with you so that you can get into the habit of conversing with them. With time, youll be able to effectively talk to natives without the cards.5. Play the Food Matching GameEveryone knows that playing games to learn languages is as effective as it is awesome. Hereâs a fun and simple game you can play any time you want that doesnt require any apps or things like that. All you need is a bunch of sticky notes.Food Matching GameHow to Play: Take foods that you already have in your home and try to match them up with the word in the language that youre trying to learn. For example, say that youre trying to learn Japanese and you have strawberries, milk, bread, carrots and chicken in your kitchen. You can make sticky notes with the Japanese vocabulary and try to correctly place them on corresponding objects within a certain amount of time.In this case:strawberry ichigo ??? milk gyuunyuu ??? bread pan ?? carrots ninjin ?? chicken tori-niku ???This is a great interactive activity for you to use to increase your vocabulary and it doesnt take a lot of time to prepare at all.Whatâs also so wonderful about this game is that you dont have to stick to just the subject of foods (although food is an easy and fun starting point).Once youve got food and food-rela ted words down, trying using the same method to learn about other items around your home. Remember to pace yourself and stick to simple categories like food, clothes, appliances, furniture, colors and so on.Learning a language can be hard. However, it can also be really enjoyable and pain-free if you apply some of these concepts along with a few other tips found on this website.Since everyone eats, starting out with food is a nice stepping stone to learning more complicated foreign words and sentences until you feel comfortable enough to branch out and learn other topics. These strategies will be great to implement with friends or family, but theyll work even if you want to learn another language all by yourself.Good luck on your journey to learning a new language!
